FORENSIC BRIGADE INITIATIVE BRINGS GLOBAL EXPERTISE TO CGC UNIVERSITY, MOHALI

The Department of Forensic Sciences (CSB), CGC University, Mohali organized an intellectually stimulating Expert Talk on “Technological Methods in Forensic Science – Principles and Applications of UV–Vis, IR and Raman Spectroscopy”. The event was held under the banner of the Forensic Brigade initiative, a platform designed to enhance practical learning and nurture next-generation forensic professionals.
The session was graced by the esteemed Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Sharma, Professor and Former Chairperson, Institute of Forensic Science & Criminology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Renowned globally for his contributions to forensic science, Dr. Sharma has been recognized four times on the prestigious Stanford–Elsevier list of the Top 2% Scientists of the World. With over 8,000 citations and an exceptional h-index of 42, he continues to stand as a thought leader whose research and scholarship inspire scholars across the globe.
In his address, Dr. Sharma provided an in-depth exploration of advanced spectroscopic techniques that are transforming forensic investigations. He demonstrated how UV–Vis, FT-IR, micro-FTIR, and Raman Spectroscopy can serve as indispensable tools in non-destructive analysis of trace evidence such as drugs, inks, paints, fibers, polymers, and soils. The discourse also included crucial insights into instrumentation essentials, best practices in evidence handling, spectral interpretation, and the importance of preparing reports that withstand courtroom scrutiny.
The lecture was more than an academic exercise; it was a bridge between scientific theory and real-world forensic practice. A total of 133 students and budding forensic scholars actively engaged in the session, gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies that redefine investigative accuracy and reliability.
