
The CGC University, Mohali, was treated to a phenomenal display of athletic fervor, unity, and sporting prowess at the 9th Annual Sports Meet 2026. Organized by the School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, this three-day extravaganza saw the entire university come together as one big family to celebrate sportsmanship, tenacity, and the energy of youth.
The entire university campus was abuzz with excitement as students from different departments stepped up to take part in a wide array of track and field events. The sports meet began with cheering crowds and a dazzling march past that set the tone for a weekend of grit and glory.
This year’s sports meet was graced by the presence of distinguished Chief Guests whose achievements and contributions added immense value to the event. The university had the honour of welcoming S. Jiwanjot Singh Teja, Dronacharya Awardee and Coach of the Indian Archery Team, who currently serves as Director (Training and Curriculum), Punjab. His presence inspired young athletes to dream bigger and commit themselves to excellence. Also in attendance was Mr. Vineet Kumar, Deputy Director General and Senior Executive Director, SAI NSNIS Patiala. His insights on discipline, sports ethics, and the future of Indian athletics set a motivating tone for the meet. The university further had the privilege of hosting Mr. Sarpreet Singh, Sub Inspector with Punjab Police and a National Cycling Champion, whose journey as both an athlete and officer stood as a powerful example of dedication and resilience.
The sports meet featured a wide array of events that included 100m, 200m, and 400m races, 4x100m Relay, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, and Javelin Throw. Athletes like Reitumetse Andrew, Khusboo, Rachit Rana, and Dorina delivered notable performances across categories. Mukul was declared Best Athlete (M), while Mehul Bisht earned Best Athlete (W). The Best Sports Person of the Year 2025–26 titles were awarded to Lakshay Zindal (M) and Jagriti Tiwari (W), recognizing their outstanding dedication and sporting excellence.
One of the key highlights was the relay segment, where four-member teams displayed impeccable coordination and teamwork. The mixed relay events, in particular, stood out for their competitive spirit and electrifying finishes. Each race drew appreciative applause from the crowds, creating an environment where every participant felt supported and motivated.
Beyond the competitive arena, the event carried a deeper message—encouraging students to embrace fitness, discipline, and perseverance as integral elements of holistic development.
