CGC University, Mohali Celebrates World Bicycle Day 2026 in Collaboration with the Sports Authority of India

CGC University, Mohali, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Regional Centre, Zirakpur, Punjab, successfully celebrated World Bicycle Day 2026 under the Fit India Movement, a flagship initiative of the Sports Authority of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, inspired by the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji.

The event drew enthusiastic participation from more than 500 cyclists, including students, faculty, staff, sports enthusiasts, and local community members, who came together to promote fitness, healthy living, environmental sustainability, and a spirit of collective well-being through cycling.

The cycling rally served as a powerful reminder of the importance of adopting active lifestyles and sustainable modes of transportation. Participants showcased remarkable energy and commitment as they rode together, reinforcing the message of health, fitness, and environmental responsibility.

The rally was ceremonially flagged off by Sardar Rajinder Singh, Senior Olympic Gold Medalist, Hockey Legend of India, Arjuna Awardee (1997), Dronacharya Awardee (2003), Former National Coach of the Indian Men's Hockey Team, and Technical Lead (Director), Roundglass Sports (Hockey). His presence inspired participants and added immense prestige to the occasion.

The event was further honoured by the gracious presence of Shri Shailender Kumar, Regional Director, Sports Authority of India, who attended as the Guest of Honour and applauded the efforts of CGC University, Mohali, in promoting fitness and community engagement among youth.

As part of the celebration, participants were also encouraged to become members of the Namo Fit India Cycling Club, an initiative aimed at building a nationwide network of cycling enthusiasts committed to fostering a culture of fitness and healthy living across the country.

Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries emphasised the significance of cycling as an accessible, eco-friendly, and effective means of maintaining physical fitness while contributing to environmental conservation. They highlighted the need for collective action in creating a healthier and more active society.
