CGC University, Mohali’s ‘Gau Kalyan’ Camp Brings Compassionate Veterinary Care to Local Cattle

In a heartfelt effort to foster animal welfare and instill a spirit of community service among youth, the Great NavBharat Mission Foundation , operating under CGC University, Mohali organized "Gau Kalyan," a dedicated cattle health camp at Gau Shala, Landran Chowk.

The initiative was organized under the guidance and vision of the "Father of Education," S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, Founder and Chancellor of CGC University, Mohali. Known for emphasizing character building alongside academic excellence, Chancellor Dhaliwal’s vision inspired the student volunteers to extend their educational journey into compassionate community outreach.

The medical camp saw a team of experienced veterinary doctors conduct thorough health check-ups for the cattle at the shelter. From diagnosing common seasonal ailments to administering essential medicines and preventive treatments, the medical team worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure every animal received personal, attentive care.

Additionally, the doctors spent time with the shelter’s caretakers, sharing practical tips on balanced cattle nutrition, disease prevention, and maintaining optimal hygiene standards to safeguard the animals long-term.

Beyond the medical treatments, what truly stood out was the active involvement of CGC University, Mohali students. Working alongside the veterinary experts, student volunteers managed logistics, assisted during check ups, and engaged directly with the shelter management. For many students, the experience served as a practical lesson in empathy and civic responsibility, moving beyond textbook knowledge to touch real lives.

Events like "Gau Kalyan" reflect CGC University’s broader commitment to social outreach, demonstrating how educational institutions can lead by example in creating a more compassionate society. By bringing together skilled professionals, enthusiastic youth, and local shelters, the Foundation not only improved the immediate well being of the cattle but also strengthened the bond between the university and the surrounding community.

The success of the camp has inspired the Foundation and its volunteers to plan similar welfare drives in the future, ensuring that the spirit of selfless service continues to thrive on and off campus.
