CGC University, Mohali, Commemorates Human Rights Day with Insightful Reflections

The School of Legal Studies at CGC University, Mohali, marked International Human Rights Day with a deeply engaging ceremony built around this year’s theme, “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials.” The gathering brought together esteemed dignitaries, faculty members, and students, creating an atmosphere that was not merely an annual formality—it reflected the University’s continuing commitment to shaping responsible citizens and legal professionals who uphold justice, dignity, and equality.

Hon’ble Mr Justice Sant Parkash, Chairperson of the Punjab State & UT Chandigarh Human Rights Commission, presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Drawing from his extensive judicial experience, he narrated impactful real-life incidents that highlighted the pressing need for improved prison conditions, stronger safeguards in custodial settings, and a justice system anchored in empathy. His words resonated deeply with students, reinforcing CGC University’s belief that legal education must expand beyond textbooks into lived realities.

The ceremony opened with the Lamp Lighting Ceremony, a symbolic reminder of the University’s pursuit of enlightenment, truth, and societal responsibility. In the welcome reflections, the School of Legal Studies connected the day’s theme with India’s timeless ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” reinforcing the idea that dignity, empathy, and equality are not abstract ideals but intrinsic values that CGC University strives to cultivate in every student. Throughout the event, faculty insights and discussions emphasised that human rights begin in everyday interactions, and that small acts of respect and empathy form the foundation of a humane society.

By bringing together students, faculty, and an eminent judicial leader, the ceremony highlighted the University’s belief that institutions must not only teach laws but also inspire conscience-driven leadership. The presence of Mr. Justice Sant Parkash reflected the University’s effort to expose its students to real-world perspectives and to cultivate a generation that is legally aware, ethically grounded, and socially sensitive. The celebration concluded with a gesture of gratitude to the Chief Guest, followed by the National Anthem and a group photograph that captured the spirit of collective responsibility.

The observance reinforced the message that at CGC University, Mohali, legal education is not confined to classrooms—it is rooted in values, shaped by societal needs, and driven by the commitment to build a more just and humane world.
